As of this hour, 4:00 am, all at the farm is well. The alpacas are all inside the barn and seem content to stay there until this all passes. We have filled up every spare water jug so that we will have fresh water for the animals if we lose power. We have our local friends with city water on stand by, so we can go refill as needed. I suppose if someone decides they must have a cria today during all this crazinees, and it is a female, it wil have to be named “Irene” although I am hoping all crias can wait for a better weather day! Stay safe ….

Of course, someone did decide to have a cria today!!! Isn’t that just how things go. Mom and little boy cria are doing fine!

This year we were invited to participate in the Connecticut Irish Festival in North Haven. We had a great time. The alpacas loved the irish music, especialy The Rogues, featured above!

Summer has finally arrived at Hunter Hill Alpacas.

We are busy dyeing yarn, spinning and knitting.

The alpacas are all shorn and enjoying their first fleece free days!

Check out these new alpaca leads!  Ever wonder what to do with all that extra lead while you are in the show ring? I tried holding it in my left hand, letting it dangle, dropping it when I showed teeth, but it was always in the way. This new lead solves that problem.   An all in one loop  makes showing your alpaca a cinch. Slip your arm through the loop and then grasp the lead.    Enough lead to do what you need but not a lot of excess to keep track of.

Hunter Hill Alpacas has just received the results of their 2009/2010 micron tests, are they are OUTSTANDING!!
The tests showed that 84% of the animals tested were below 25 microns, 45% were below 20 microns and 16% were below 17 microns.
And amazingly, only 5 of the animals that were tested were white!
These results confirm the success of the Hunter Hill breeding program in breeding one of the finest colored alpaca herds in the country.

We took five alpacas to NAAS and MAPACA and they all recieved ribbons at both shows!

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! This update is long overdue. We bought a new computer several months ago, and it was a Windows 7 based computer.

Our Adobe Suite of software, including our website software, would not work!!! Adobe just came out with new software and this is my first attempt at using it! Don’t you hate when you just learn how to do something and then it all changes!!
